About Shopmobility

Shopmobility is a scheme which provides electrically powered wheelchairs, scooters
and manual wheelchairs to help people who have limited mobility to shop and use the facilities/amenities
of the area or shopping centre.
Each 'Shopmobility Centre' is an independent organisation, although each centre
may have more than one outlet within their own area.
Shopmobility is open to anyone who has limited mobility and feel that getting about
would be difficult for them. This limited mobility could be through disablement, illness, accident or
age and could be temporary or permanent.
You do not have to be a Blue Badge holder or a registered disabled person to use
the scheme.
To use the equipment you must first enrol as a member of the 'centre' where you
want to use the equipment. You will be required to fill in a form giving some personal information and
also have some form of identification with you.
The schemes are in the main staffed by volunteers and are open for the booking of
the equipment during weekdays. It is recommended that you contact your chosen centre at least one day
in advance to book a particular piece of equipment, or to check on the availability of the equipment
at the centre. This would particularly important for equipment required at the weekends.
If you are planning to use an electrically powered wheelchair or scooter, a member
of staff will show you how it works and when both yourself and the member of staff are confident that
you can handle it then you can set off to your destination.
