Urban Community Transport
Door-to-Door Services

The Department for Regional Development (DRD) provides financial support to enable Disability Action Transport in Belfast and Bridge Accessible Transport in Londonderry to offer door-to-door transport services for disabled people. These services are for people who find it difficult or impossible to use mainstream public transport. This may be due to a permanent or temporary physical or sensory disability.
To use these services you must live within the transport operating area and you will need to become a member of the organisation. Membership is free and once you become a member you may then book the journey you need. Please note that you will normally need to book 24 hours (by phone) before you wish to travel. If you plan to travel for the first time it would be useful to give them more notice to enable them to deal with the administration involved in setting up your membership.
The vehicles call at the your front door and will take you to and from almost any location within the operating area. This may be to go shopping, visit relatives/friends, go to work, go to church, go to the cinema, bingo, pubs, clubs or the local park. The only type of journey you cannot use it for is to attend hospital appointments.
The vehicles have low steps and a passenger lift to assist you and if you feel you need further support a friend or relative can accompany you. If you have a guide dog, it can come too.
The Department intends to extend door-to-door services to every urban area across Northern Ireland with a population in excess of 10,000 people in the near future. Disability Action Transport and Bridge Accessible Transport will continue to operate in Belfast and Londonderry in the short-term.
